 Galvanneal

Our Galvanneal product range provides the ability for our customers to select the steels that best suit their specific design criteria. We work with you to find the most appropriate products to match your circumstances.

Our Galvanneal product range is ideal for manufacturing applications and exhibit excellent formability, meeting Australian Standard AS/NZ 1365; and is available in any form required.

About Galvanneal

Galvanneal steel sheet is the process of galvanisation combined with an annealing treatment. Annealing consists of a heat treatment, reforming the properties of the steel for superior workability. As per our hot-rolled steel processes, galvannealed steel is heated above recrystallization temperatures, then cooled. Commercial steel doors and frames are among the most familiar uses of galvanneal.

Galvanneal can be easily bent, drawn upon or moulded. However, due to the nature of its coating, occasional cracks or powdery markings may be visible under stresses such as bending and forming.

There is an increasing demand for slitting and shearing Galvanneal products. At Impact Steel we can supply sheet or coil to your nominated dimensions within machine tolerance and limits. We can also produce blanks to allow our customers to continue with their own processes for end use manufacture.

The Benefits of Galvanneal

Galvanneal steel has the potential to inherit an extra smooth surface through temper rolling, to be applied where surfacing specifics are imperative. Galvanneal is corrosion resistant with minimum yield strength.

In addition, formability and weldability, especially spot-welding, is greatly improved along with the superior painting abilities compared to standard galvanised parts. Galvanneal steel is also less susceptible to rusting.

Better welds are attainable with a zinc coating containing iron, very similar to how cold-rolled steel welds. This makes Galvanneal universally dynamic and in hot-demand in the automotive, construction, and appliance industries.

Specific Uses and Applications of Galvanneal

The automobile industry is a major market for Galvannealed steel. In the 1990s car manufacturers Honda, Toyota and Ford used Galvannealled coatings. Depending on the part within the car frame, different variations of Galvanneal steel were used.

Galvanneal is excellent for bending, drawing, and pressing applications.

Our galvanneal product range provides the ability for our customers to select the steels that best suit their specific design criteria. Typical applications are mainly in the automotive industry including:

  • Automotive parts and equipment
  • Transport manufacturing – hoods, doors, and body panels
